QCoP CSs

   

The role of the Co-ordinating Supervisor (CS, previously referred to as the Co-ordinator of Training or CoT) is crucial in guiding candidates through to successful completion of the Qualification in Counselling Psychology (QCoP). This page is intended to be a source of support for those who take on the role of CS for candidates enrolled for the Society's Qualification in Counselling Psychology. Regulations for the Society's Postgraduate Qualifications and Candidate Handbook for the QCoP

The Counselling Psychology Qualifications Board has produced a Supervisor Handbook which it is hoped will offer greater support to those in roles supporting candidates through the QCoP.

In order to maximise the information that the Board can make available online, the QCoP Downloads have been split into separate webpages for new applicants and continuing candidates. Information relevant to both groups, such as the Candidate Handbook, Regulations, fees and Registrar updates can be found on the main Downloads page.

The documentation on these Downloads pages apply to all new enrolment applications. All currently enrolled candidates must abide by the latest Candidate Handbook and Regulations below.

CS Training

Refresher training for CSs is usually held twice a year. Details of the next CS refresher workshop are below.

New CSs need to undertake a full training before being approved in the role. If you are interested in undertaking this training please contact Bethan Carley.

CSs must attend a CS workshop at least once every two years in order to maintain approval. This requirement is to ensure that CSs are up-to-date with QCoP requirements and regulations in order to best support their trainees.


Communication with your trainee's practice and (if applicable) research supervisors

As a CS, you might need to be in contact with your trainee's practice and (if applicable) research supervisors. Please ensure that you discuss with your supervisee and their supervisor(s) how to best facilitate this contact.

Plan of Training Update

All candidates are required to submit an Updated Plan of Training by 1 July each year as a condition of enrolment and also to allow them to register for assessment by the deadline in the following November. Please work with your trainee to complete the forms by this deadline. You will also need to read and sign your trainee's Practice Report Form (and Research Report Form, if applicable) once these have been completed by the respective supervisor. These can be downloaded from the QCoP Downloads webpage. These forms must be submitted as hard signed copies.

Quarterly Review of Development Objectives

Ongoing candidates will need to submit a quarterly review of their development objectives which will be completed in conjunction with their CS at the quarterly face-to-face meeting. Quarterly review forms will need to be received by 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October each year. The form due on 1 July will need to accompany the PoT update and the due date for PoT updates is therefore also 1 July.

Submission deadline for assessed work

Your trainee will approach you for support in preparing pieces of work for submission and the accompanying Checklists for Submission of Work. In order to support your trainee in this process, please familiarise yourself with the requirements and marking criteria for assessed work which can be found in the Candidate Handbook for the QCoP. The AU feedback sheets used by the Board are also available for CoTs and candidates to use. Submission deadlines can be found on the Assessment Timetable.

CS survey

Many thanks to those of you who responded to the recent CS survey. Your input will be very helpful in deepening understanding of the role from a CS's perspective. Results will be published online in due course.
